| "Everyone knows I'm in over my head... over my head"
Don't act like you've never heard it. The melodies and lyrics of The Fray's music on their first big album, "How To Save A Life," are too catchy to ignore.
But did you know that all the band members are Believers?
Lead singer Isaac Slade says he used to "write all Christian lyrics" until he had an epiphany while working a shift at Starbucks: "None of my friends outside the church understood any of my songs; we had a different set of vocabulary," he says. "So I went home and threw away all those songs."
He adds, "If I handed somebody a double grande mocha latte and told them, 'Jesus loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life,' they might throw it back on me.
"If we grow up in the church, it's easy to think it's our Christian duty to preach to every single person because God is the most important thing. And he is, but I'm a musician first. This is my job. We're not pastors. We're not preachers. We're not even missionaries."
Slade likens his job to any other. "If you're a painter, paint, but you don't have to have Jesus in every picture. Paint well, and if you paint well enough, they might ask you why you do that."

'05 and '06 have proven quite successful years for "true" Christians in mainstream music (and by "true," I'm not talking about P.Ditty thanking God at the Grammy's). I wonder what the rest of the year will hold.
| This video of an animatronic bird performing an Eisley tune at Chuck E. Cheese may freak you out a little bit. But don't worry, hundreds of kids endured it, so you can too. This Flickr photo album of the band performing only two days ago may make you want to be a professional band photographer. And this live video clip of Eisley performing their singable tune "Telescope Eyes" may make you want to be a rock star just like them:
I mean, only a rock star could make those gloves cool.

| Yes, yes, yes. MuteMath, the band formerly known as Earthsuit (minus the blonde guy with those really big old people glasses), played on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson recently. Check out the video. Oh, you need more enticing to warrant the video download? One word: keytar.

| I found this hometown article about the GMA Award-winning band, Sanctus Real, persevering through two family tragedies and wrestling with fear about the quality of their upcoming (now recently-released) album, called The Face of Love.
It was so refreshing to read something about a band that didn't seem publicist infuzed, that I'm linking to it.

| So I work for a web design company at the beach, and I like my job. But my boss is liking his job even more this week: he's presenting a sponsorship check at the Miss Hawaiian Tropic pageant in Las Vegas. It's cool that Hawaiian Tropic, (which was founded in Ormond Beach, fla.) is a client of our company. Their Web site features all their products and looks nice. But when I initially told some friends about the business relationship, I wasn't expecting the responses I would get. I thought Hawaiian Tropic was basically known for selling suntan lotion. But I grinned when people jokingly said things like:
"So what you're telling me is that you're staring at Hawaiian Tropic girls all day in Photoshop. Yeah, what a drag." --summer
"Make sure you schedule some lunches with the ladies to 'research' the brand." --david m.
and my favorite: "I hate you." --d.b.
Ok, I made the last one up. :) And for the record, I haven't really dealt with HT yet in the office. Just thought you might enjoy my weird friend's comments.
Make sure you check out the most recent Sanctus Real album, The Face of Love. Very cool stuff. Peace!
